When I was a kid, I
would read about places like Machu Picchu and Stonehenge with a sense of
bittersweet wonder: though these places certainly inspired a sense of awe in my
young mind, they were basically abstractions. They were places to be seen on TV
or read about in books. Even if I was to take a trip to visit these abandoned ancient
wonders, everything I saw would be through the sanitized lens of a tour group.
The sense of adventure that can only come with exploring something – something unseen by human eyes for a long
time – is simply unattainable if you follow all the rules and stick to what you
know to be safe. This blog is intended to document the attempt by my best
friend and I to satisfy our desire for exploring forgotten places.
